View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] At the debate among the four People Power Party candidates for the Seoul mayoral by-election held on the 26th, preliminary candidate Na Kyung-won emerged as the winner.
In the debate where the final candidate position was contested, the conflict between preliminary candidates Na Kyung-won and Oh Se-hoon was clearly revealed.
During the joint vision debate for the Seoul mayoral candidate primary, which was broadcast live through the People Power Party's YouTube channel 'Oreun Sori,' each candidate was given one minute to praise their opponents.
The praise relay started with preliminary candidate Oh Se-hoon, followed by Oh Shin-hwan and Cho Eun-hee. All three candidates praised their opponents.
Finally, it was Na's turn. However, after praising Oh Shin-hwan and Cho, Na ran out of time and was unable to mention Oh Se-hoon. Although Na made a gesture indicating a misjudgment of time, the moderator asked for a brief compliment during the upcoming lead debate, but Na did not bring it up again.
This was a fallout from the emotional conflict that arose after Oh Se-hoon referred to Na as a "hardline conservative" and, in an interview, suggested that due to a lack of moderate inclusiveness, it would be difficult to unify with Ahn Cheol-soo, the People's Party candidate.
Especially during Oh Se-hoon's final lead speech, when he started by saying that the conservative party is "misunderstood and is said to be a party for the wealthy," Na suddenly requested a rebuttal right (60 seconds).
Na said, "You keep calling me a hardline conservative, but the reasons keep changing. First, going to Gwanghwamun to protest was a problem. Then you said that as floor leader, I achieved nothing, which is truly regrettable," adding, "I don't claim to have been a perfect floor leader, but isn't it wrong to criticize a fighting general for running away in 2011?"
Oh responded, "I think there is a deep misunderstanding," and concluded his lead speech on the 'Safe Income' policy he had prepared. Oh did not remain silent either. In a situation where he had two minutes to speak and was supposed to ask other candidates' opinions, Oh only asked Cho and Oh Shin-hwan, saying, "Candidate Na used it for a different purpose." The response time was also short, only 30 seconds.
