Jeongeup-si Provides 6.564 Billion Won Support for Eco-Friendly School Meals
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeongeup City in Jeonbuk announced on the 26th that it will provide 6.564 billion KRW this year to support high-quality eco-friendly meals for kindergarten, elementary, middle, and high school students.
The support targets 10,947 students from 99 schools, including public kindergartens and local elementary, middle, and high schools.
Details include free meals worth 5.688 billion KRW (provincial funds 1.338 billion KRW, city funds 1.56 billion KRW, special education funds 2.844 billion KRW), eco-friendly agricultural product school meals 600 million KRW (provincial funds 192 million KRW, city funds 216 million KRW, special education funds 192 million KRW), and 276 million KRW from the city’s own budget.
In particular, this year the city secured additional budget to expand the usage of eco-friendly agricultural products in school meals from 60% last year to 80%, aiming to support the healthy growth of students.
Through the Eco-Friendly School Meal Support Center, the city directly supplies 16 types of excellent eco-friendly agricultural products produced by local farms and 21 processed items produced by local processing companies to schools within the region.
This is expected to significantly contribute not only to increasing the income of local farms and processing companies but also to improving the health and dietary habits of growing students.
