[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seodaemun-gu (Mayor Moon Seok-jin) is holding the "2021 Themed Digital Photo and Video Contest" until November this year to widely promote the district's beautiful nature, history, and villages.
Since 2016, a "photo" contest has been held annually until last year, and this year, a "video" category has been added.
Each month, a different theme is presented, and outstanding works of the month are selected in the first round. In December, the final winners are chosen from these selected works.
The monthly themes are as follows: February - "COVID-19 in Our Daily Lives," March - "Long Live Korean Independence! Remembering That Day," April - "Happiness Blooming Among Cherry Blossoms," May - "Family," and June - "The Fragrant Acacia Flower Trail at Ansan Footpath."
Additionally, July's theme is "Summer in Our Neighborhood," August is "Exploring Seodaemun's History of Independence and Democracy," September is "Our Village," October is "Along the Flower Path at Hongjecheon," and November is "Colorful Autumn in Seodaemun." However, themes may change depending on social distancing measures.
Anyone can participate by submitting works related to the monthly theme along with an application form via email (jkp9372@sdm.go.kr) from the 1st to the end of each month.
The application form can be downloaded from the Seodaemun-gu website (Citizen Participation → Open Plaza → Photo & Video Contest), where participants must fill in the title, subject, and description of the work.
For "photos," JPG files of at least 2,300×1,520 pixels (10MB or more recommended) are accepted, and one person can submit up to three entries per month.
For "videos," files up to 3 minutes long (avi, mp4, wmv, etc.) with Full HD (1920×1080 pixels) or higher resolution are recommended. The works must be original creations without genre restrictions. There is no limit on the number of video submissions per month, and teams as well as individuals can participate.
The district will select eight outstanding works each month (five photos and three videos) and award the winners with Onnuri gift certificates worth approximately 50,000 KRW.
At the end of the year, from the 80 monthly winners, ten final winners will be selected?one grand prize, two excellence awards, and two encouragement awards each for photo and video categories?and will receive certificates from the mayor along with prize money (50, 30, and 20 million KRW respectively).
Monthly winners may be selected multiple times for different works by the same person, but duplication is not allowed in the final year-end awards.
The district plans to actively utilize the winning works by holding exhibitions and displaying them on various SNS promotional channels, blogs, and digital displays at the district office and community centers.
