Under the new volunteer slogan "Happy Daegu! With the Power of Volunteering," Daegu City unveiled its "2021 Volunteer Activation Plan" on the 23rd, centered on strengthening non-face-to-face and resident participation volunteer activity programs.
First, to reinforce the volunteer disaster support system and network, the city will promote volunteer activity programs such as safety preparedness volunteering, where citizens can take an interest and participate in social safety issues on their own, and climate change response volunteering.
Additionally, to enable rapid volunteer activities in emergencies, based on the "Disaster Volunteer SOS Support System" composed of 66 disaster-related organizations and groups, plans include conducting infection disaster prevention volunteer activities and integrated disaster volunteer education.
To secure diversity in volunteering and actively respond to beneficiaries' needs, the city plans to actively nurture and support talent volunteer groups by sector, operating 583 volunteer groups in 10 fields such as education counseling and performance volunteering.
Along with this, to boost volunteers' pride and foster a voluntary participation atmosphere, Daegu will hold the "Daegu Volunteer Expo" and organize a "Volunteer Conference" at year-end to select and award outstanding volunteers.
In particular, to make it easier to check volunteer records on the 1365 Volunteer Portal, a system will be established allowing individuals to view their volunteer records using personal information (name, date of birth, mobile phone), and to directly apply for a mobile volunteer ID card upon accumulating 50 or more hours.
Daegu Mayor Kwon Young-jin stated, "The reason Daegu was able to rise again from COVID-19 was thanks to the citizens who demonstrated high civic awareness and the volunteers. We will continue to provide unwavering support so that each volunteer can take pride as a brand and foster a voluntary and proactive volunteer culture."
