Lee Jae-myung: "Governor Kim Kyung-soo, We Are One Team Focused on the Economy"
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung expressed agreement with Gyeongnam Province Governor Kim Kyung-soo, who said that framing major economic debates such as basic income as a confrontation between pro-Moon (친문) and anti-Moon (반문) factions is harmful, emphasizing that they are a one team solely for the people.
He added that if given the opportunity, he would like to visit the planned site of Gadeokdo New Airport, a symbol of the Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam (Bu-Ul-Gyeong) economy, and share his economic vision along with Governor Kim’s insights.
On the 22nd, through Facebook, Lee highly praised Kim’s recent interview statement that “viewing policy debates through the lens of pro-Moon and anti-Moon is harmful,” calling it a clear remark that settled a debate that could have easily gone off track.
He continued, “Not long ago, I posted that I felt proud to participate in the fierce vision and policy competition centered around our (Democratic) Party,” introducing the meaningful debate at the time as “policy debates for the people and vision debates for a new future, rather than reckless remarks or emotional provocations, were like rain in a parched political space.”
Furthermore, he explained, “What I truly want to emphasize is ‘everything leads to the economy’ (기승전 경제), and basic income is a sub-concept for this ‘everything leads to the economy.’ Besides basic income, I am designing and partially implementing various policies that establish the economic basic rights and restore the declining economy to enable sustainable growth, such as basic housing that supplies large quantities of affordable, high-quality public housing to increase household consumption reduced by housing prices, and basic finance (guaranteed small, long-term low-interest loans) that shares financial gains generated by state power with the sovereign and properly operates monetary and financial policies.”
Governor Lee also expressed respect for Governor Kim’s unwavering provincial administration.
He said, “I strongly support and applaud Governor Kim’s efforts as Gyeongnam Governor to promote balanced development and create internal regional growth engines through ‘everything leads to the economy,’” evaluating that “these efforts have borne fruit with the passage of the Gadeok New Airport Special Act through the Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee, and are blossoming through the spread of the Bu-Ul-Gyeong megacity discourse.”
He added, “If invited, I would like to visit the planned site of Gadeok New Airport, a symbol of ‘everything leads to the economy’ in the Bu-Ul-Gyeong region, and there share my vision and Governor Kim’s insights on ‘everything leads to the economy.’ Criticism fills gaps and corrects mistakes, enhancing the completeness and realism of policies.”
