Gwangju Dong-gu Operates 'Wise Civil Complaint Handling Day'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Im Taek) announced on the 22nd that it will operate a new type of ‘Wise Civil Complaint Handling Day’ using minimal personnel and a non-face-to-face system to realize communication administration with residents.
‘Wise Civil Complaint Handling Day’ is a method that replaces last year’s ‘Civil Complaint Administration Day’ promoted by Dong-gu. For civil complaints that cannot be immediately resolved among existing ▲National Sinmungo ▲365 Daily Civil Complaints ▲‘Dudream’ Participation Plaza Complaints ▲Dong Visit Complaints, the district mayor directly visits the site to listen to the opinions of the complainants and seek solutions.
From now on, Dong-gu plans to designate every Tuesday as Wise Civil Complaint Handling Day, where the district mayor, the head of the relevant dong, the department head in charge, and staff will actively visit the site with the complainants to resolve complaints.
In addition, complaints will be promptly handled according to the type and nature, such as ▲matters that cannot be immediately processed like budget securing ▲projects requiring mid- to long-term planning by issue ▲cases transferred to other institutions, and the results will be notified to the complainants.
In particular, when handling on-site complaints, the operation will strictly comply with social distancing quarantine guidelines, such as limiting the number of gatherings to five or fewer to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
When only simple opinion listening from complainants is required, a non-face-to-face interview between the district mayor and the complainant will be promoted using the video conferencing system established at the Dong Administrative Welfare Center, thereby establishing a new civil complaint handling environment suitable for the COVID-19 daily life era.

Mayor Im Taek of Dong-gu said, “With the mindset that ‘the answer lies in the field,’ we are putting residents first and carrying out administration,” adding, “Although it was not easy to meet residents due to COVID-19 last year, this year we will do our best to resolve residents’ inconveniences by directly visiting the neighborhoods and alleys where residents live in a new way.”
