Yeongcheon-si Breaks Ground on Agricultural Products Wholesale Market Modernization... Reopening in November
The Former Market Building Transformed into a Parking Lot
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Dong-wook] The Gyeongbuk Yeongcheon Agricultural Products Wholesale Market, which opened 23 years ago and has become old and cramped, will be newly rebuilt.
On the 22nd, Yeongcheon City held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Agricultural Products Wholesale Market Facility Modernization Project in Jogyo-dong. Considering the COVID-19 situation, the ceremony was held simply with a minimal number of attendees, including Mayor Choi Ki-moon, City Council Chairman Jo Young-je, and market officials.
The 'Agricultural Products Wholesale Market Facility Modernization Project' will be carried out on the site next to the existing agricultural products wholesale market with a project cost of 12.5 billion KRW, constructing a two-story building with a total floor area of 3,582㎡. The existing agricultural products wholesale market will be demolished and used as a parking lot.
The site area will expand by 8,501㎡ to a total of 13,258㎡, larger than the existing agricultural products wholesale market. A 305㎡ cold storage warehouse will also be built, making storage more convenient.
With construction expected to be completed around October and reopening in November, it is anticipated that the project will not only enhance the convenience for farmers and users but also stabilize agricultural product transaction prices through revitalization of auction functions.
Mayor Choi Ki-moon stated, "I hope it will become a trusted agricultural products market where farmers receive fair prices and consumers can access high-quality agricultural products through modernized facilities that keep pace with the new distribution environment." He added, "We will seek ways to create synergy effects through cooperation with the Yeongcheon Nonghyup and Neunggeum Nonghyup auction sites located right next door."
