[Breaking] Government "Agrees with 'Revoking Medical Licenses for Serious Crimes' but Legal Amendments Are Under National Assembly's Jurisdiction"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Juhyung] On the 22nd, the government responded to the Korea Medical Association's (KMA) opposition to the Medical Service Act amendment, which cancels the licenses of doctors sentenced to imprisonment or higher, and their declaration to go on a total strike by stating, "We will continue to communicate with the medical community to ensure that there is no controversy over refusal to participate in quarantine or vaccination processes."
However, the government made it clear that the amendment to the Medical Service Act is under the jurisdiction of the National Assembly.

Son Youngrae, head of the Social Strategy Division at the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters, said, "The license cancellation issue raised by the KMA is part of the Medical Service Act amendment, which is fundamentally being discussed during the legislative process in the National Assembly. While the government agrees on the necessity of the related legal amendment, the decision lies with the legislative branch, the National Assembly, and the executive branch, the government, does not have the authority to decide on this matter."
