Gwangyang City, Public-Private Joint Effort to Confirm Air Environment Improvement Measures at Gwangyang Steelworks
Gwangyang City Council, Gwangyang Sustainable Environment Council, and Jeollanam-do Joint Meeting
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Gwangyang City announced on the 18th that it plans to conduct a joint public-private on-site inspection on the 25th to verify the air environment process improvements at Gwangyang Steelworks.
The city will check the performance and future improvement plans for air environment improvements at Gwangyang Steelworks together with the Gwangyang City Council, the Gwangyang Sustainable Environment Council, and officials from Jeollanam-do.
They plan to verify the blast furnace breather venting work that occurred in 2019 on-site, check the semi-breather improvement measures, the progress of the improvement plans finalized by the joint air environment improvement council, and whether administrative measures regarding scattered dust have been implemented.
They will identify pollution sources throughout the entire process, including the sintering plant and slag cooling facilities, and provide time for communication between Gwangyang Steelworks and the local community regarding environmental improvements.
The city issued administrative measures to suppress scattered dust on the 15th of last month, and the Gwangyang City Council released a statement urging POSCO to improve air quality at the 295th extraordinary session held on the 28th of last month.
The Gwangyang Sustainable Environment Council also finalized this year’s operational plan to continuously monitor air environment improvements at Gwangyang Steelworks.
