One Plot (10㎡) Per Family, Garden Plot Fee 30,000 KRW Per Plot, Groups of 5 or More Also Eligible... Applications Only Accepted on Eunpyeong-gu Website, Participants Selected by Computerized Lottery
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Eunpyeong-gu (Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) is recruiting participants from March 2 to 8 for the rental of 'Vegetable Gardens within Hyangnim Urban Agriculture Experience Center,' allowing local residents to become urban farmers and cultivate vegetable gardens.
The vegetable gardens available for rent consist of a total of 210 plots (each plot 10㎡, including ridges), and applications can be made on the basis of one plot per household (family) or one community.
The cultivation period is from March 22 to November 30, and the usage fee is 30,000 KRW per plot, the same as last year.
There are three types of vegetable gardens: general vegetable gardens open to any citizen registered in Seoul, community vegetable gardens available only to groups of five or more registered in the district, and considerate vegetable gardens for multicultural families, large families, people with disabilities, and residents of Bulgwang 2-dong registered in the district.
At the Hyangnim Urban Agriculture Experience Center, an orientation for vegetable garden renters will be held over two days, March 20 to 21, to explain usage methods and crop cultivation tips. Six vegetable garden communities such as Pureun Village and Chorok Village will be formed, where urban agriculture experts will be individually assigned to act as mentors to help beginner urban farmers cultivate their gardens.
The selection of renters and announcement of results will be conducted through a computerized lottery on March 9, and the results will be posted on the district office website on March 10.
Kim Mi-kyung, Mayor of Eunpyeong-gu, said, “The vegetable gardens within the Hyangnim Urban Agriculture Experience Center are popular places for local residents. We expect that the urban gardens will provide participants with opportunities to experience farming and enjoy happy times with their families.” She added, “We ask for active participation from residents so that the vegetable garden village communities can become even more vibrant and enjoyable urban agriculture experience centers.”
