218 New COVID-19 Cases in Seoul as of 6 PM... Rising Concerns Over Resurgence
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyungsoo] In Seoul, 218 new COVID-19 cases were reported over 18 hours from midnight to 6 p.m. on the 16th.
Seoul city announced that as of 6 p.m., the number of new COVID-19 cases was 218, the highest since 297 cases on the 6th of last month.
The daily new cases in Seoul remained in the 100s for 32 consecutive days from January 7 (191 cases) to this month’s 7th (112 cases). After recording 90 cases on the 8th, the number fluctuated in the 100s from the 9th to the 15th.
With the test results from the 15th, right after the Lunar New Year holiday, reflected on the 16th, the number of confirmed cases surged past 200, raising concerns about a COVID-19 resurgence. Among the new cases, 8 were imported from overseas, and the remaining 210 were domestic infections.
Among cluster infection cases, 22 were related to Soonchunhyang University Seoul Hospital in Yongsan-gu, 5 were linked to a social gathering in Yongsan-gu, and 3 were connected to a sports facility in Guro-gu. For cases not separately managed as cluster infections, 101 were contacts of other confirmed cases, 7 were contacts of confirmed cases from other cities or provinces, and 62 cases are currently under investigation for their infection routes.
