Gwangju Nam-gu Seeks Disability Rights Remedy Recipients Twice a Year
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Kim Byeong-nae) announced on the 16th that it will conduct two rounds of searches in the first and second halves of this year to find rights protection beneficiaries among disabled residents in the district to improve their convenience and eliminate welfare blind spots.
The target disabled persons for rights protection discovery in Nam-gu this year include 4,522 physically disabled, 1,741 hearing impaired, 1,234 visually impaired, 1,033 brain lesion disabled, and 634 mentally disabled individuals, totaling 11,231 registered disabled residents as of the end of last year.
Nam-gu plans to use the Happy e-Eum system, which monitors 14 types of welfare service projects for the disabled, to extract rights protection beneficiaries for each project, then notify the local administrative welfare centers of the list of those omitted from services, guiding them to apply for benefits so that eligible recipients can enjoy the services.
The discovery of rights protection beneficiaries for the disabled is currently underway for two weeks from the 10th to the 24th of this month for the first half, and is scheduled to be conducted from July 19 to August 5 in the second half.
Disabled persons identified as rights protection beneficiaries through the first half survey can submit service use applications through the local administrative welfare centers starting from the 25th and then access any omitted services.
Service applications can be made by visiting in person, or if the disabled person has mobility difficulties, a responsible public official can apply on their behalf.
The welfare services provided to the disabled include 14 types such as support for diagnosis and examination fees for low-income disabled persons, processing of re-assessment for disability, support for cochlear implant surgery, handling of expired highway toll discount cards, language development support, and support for pensions, allowances, and living expenses.
