According to the Gumi Police Station in Gyeongbuk on the 15th, around 10:20 a.m. the previous day, a man estimated to be in his 30s or 40s, identified as Mr. A, violently attacked a resident, Mr. B (65), who was returning home in an alley near Gumi Geum-o Market.
Mr. B had been walking near his home for about an hour as exercise before heading back.
Mr. B glanced briefly at Mr. A, who was sitting in the market alley wearing earphones.
When Mr. A reacted by saying, "What are you looking at?" Mr. B awkwardly replied, "I thought you were someone I knew."
Suddenly, Mr. A grabbed Mr. B's arm and threw him down. He then struck Mr. B's face and chest using his fists, feet, and knees.
Mr. B sustained injuries to his face, nose, and chest, and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital where he received four stitches near his eye.
The victim reported Mr. A to the police and secured CCTV footage from shops within the market, which was submitted as evidence.
The police are tracking Mr. A, who is believed to work near Geum-o Market.
Additionally, on the same day, CCTV footage of the assault was released on the Facebook page Gumi Matjip Ilbo.
In the video, Mr. A pushes down the seated Mr. B and assaults him. Mr. B is unable to retaliate and remains seated while being attacked.
