Gwangju City Audit Committee Conducts Special Audit on Management Practices of Child Protection Zones and More
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] The Gwangju Metropolitan City Audit Committee announced on the 15th that it will conduct a special audit on the management and operation status of children's protection zones from the 16th of this month to the 12th of next month.
This audit is being conducted in response to the need to strengthen the installation and management of traffic safety facilities in children's protection zones following the amendment and enforcement of the Road Traffic Act (commonly known as the 'Min-sik Law') in 2020. The audit will be carried out through on-site joint inspections involving citizen auditors and officials from the relevant autonomous districts.
Prior to this, the Audit Committee selected 118 locations as the main inspection targets out of 588 designated children's protection zones within the jurisdiction. These include areas where traffic accidents have occurred or are likely to occur in the past three years, protection zones around special schools, and recently changed protection zone sections.
The main audit items include ▲ the appropriateness of installing various traffic safety facilities such as traffic safety signs and fences separating sidewalks and roadways ▲ the appropriateness of installing speed reduction devices such as unmanned enforcement cameras and speed bumps ▲ the appropriateness of imposing fines for illegal parking and stopping within protection zones. If any issues are found, they plan to promptly correct them.
