Justice Party "Schedule for Party Leader By-election to be Decided by End of February"
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] The Justice Party will decide the schedule for the party leader by-election to fill the vacancy left by former leader Kim Jong-chul by the end of this month.
Kang Eun-mi, the Emergency Committee Chair of the Justice Party, stated at the Emergency Committee meeting held on the 15th, "We have agreed to proceed with the party leader by-election as soon as possible to overcome the current crisis and normalize the party," adding, "The Emergency Committee will prepare so that this party leader election becomes a nationwide forum for discussion on party reform measures."
Accordingly, the Justice Party will decide the schedule for the party leader by-election at the National Committee meeting in late February, following meetings such as the Provincial Party Chairpersons' Joint Meeting.
Chair Kang said, "We will explain the Emergency Committee's future plans through metropolitan and provincial party delegates' conferences and party member meetings, and continue to gather opinions on overall party reform measures, including a gender-equal organizational culture."
She also apologized regarding the controversy over the unfair dismissal of former secretary of Assemblywoman Ryu Ho-jeong on the same day.
Chair Kang stated, "Following former leader Kim's sexual harassment incident, I sincerely apologize as the floor leader and Emergency Committee Chair for causing concern to the public, supporters, and party members due to the controversy over the dismissal of Assemblywoman Ryu's secretary," adding, "I also pointed out to Assemblywoman Ryu that some parts and methods of her press conference have raised concerns inside and outside the party and issued a stern warning."
