Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hosts 'Korea Broadcasting Video Content Planning Proposal' Contest
[Asia Economy Reporter Donghyun Choi] The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on the 15th that, together with the Korea Creative Content Agency, it will hold the ‘2021 Korea Broadcasting and Video Content Planning Proposal Contest’ from the 17th of this month to April 9th.
This contest was planned to discover excellent content, the core of competitiveness, in response to the rapidly changing media industry environment due to the emergence of domestic and international Over-The-Top (OTT) online video services. Especially from this year, the project, which was previously divided by platform such as TV and online, will be integrated and expanded, and a program supporting the completion of planning proposals will be introduced, presenting a new approach.
This year’s contest will select the largest number of planning proposals ever and award prize money. A total of 50 proposals will be selected across three categories: drama, entertainment/culture, and documentary, with the maximum prize money per category increased by 33% to 100% compared to last year. The total prize money has increased by 100 million KRW from last year, reaching 785 million KRW.
Additionally, the top works in each category (5 pieces) will newly receive special incentives equivalent to 10% of the prize money, and outstanding broadcasting format works (4 pieces) will receive an additional 15 million KRW per work as support funds necessary for participation in domestic and international markets and investment briefings. Furthermore, to discover experimental and creative proposals, the scoring for originality and novelty in subject matter, scripts, and planning proposals will be strengthened during evaluation.
To ensure that the selected proposals from this contest can lead to actual production, a ‘Planning Proposal Completion Support Program’ has also been newly established. Among the selected proposals, 20 that wish to connect to production will be assigned top domestic experts as dedicated mentor directors to provide one-on-one customized training from June to October, supporting the development of advanced and refined production plans. The top 5 works of the contest will be supported through this year’s production support project up to production. Works that complete the ‘Planning Proposal Completion Support Program’ are expected to receive production support next year. Other selected works will also receive additional points when applying for production support projects next year.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will also operate a planning and development education project worth 1.8 billion KRW for broadcasting formats and immersive content categories. Production companies, universities, associations, organizations, and service companies will be selected as educational institutions to provide approximately six months of practice-centered training courses for creators.
