Hwang Hee Visits Daehangno: "Supporting Both In-Person and Online Arts"
"Best Efforts to Overcome COVID-19 Damage Including Stabilizing Artists' Livelihoods and Supporting Creation"
Hwang Hee, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, promised to do his best to support the recovery of the cultural and artistic sectors from the damage caused by COVID-19.
On the 14th, Minister Hwang visited Daehak-ro in Jongno-gu, Seoul, to listen to the difficulties faced by the cultural and artistic community. He held a meeting with performing arts workers at the Artist's House, including Gil Hae-yeon, Chairman of the Korea Theater Welfare Foundation, Jeon Ki-gwang, CEO of Dream Theater, Kim Hong-taek, CEO of MyMapha, and Lim Jeong-hyeok, Chairman of the Korean Small Theater Association. He stated, "The cultural and artistic sectors have suffered severe damage due to COVID-19," and added, "As the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, I feel a heavy responsibility." He promised, "We will do our best to overcome the damage caused by COVID-19 by supporting both face-to-face and non-face-to-face arts, stabilizing artists' livelihoods, and supporting creative activities."
Minister Hwang also declared, "We will steadily establish the institutional foundation for enhancing the rights and interests of the arts community, including the stable settlement of the artist employment insurance system introduced last year and the prompt legislation of the 'Artist Rights Protection Act'." He said, "Believing that 'the answer lies in the field,' I will continuously gather opinions from the cultural and artistic sectors and reflect them in policies as a 'minister who works on the ground,'" and requested, "As a partner to overcome COVID-19 together, I ask for much advice and insight."

He also visited the Dream Theater small theater to inspect compliance with the 2.5-level quarantine measures for performance venues in the metropolitan area, including ▲management of entry logs ▲availability of hand sanitizers ▲ventilation ▲operation of the 2.5-level seating system. Minister Hwang said, "It is fortunate that social distancing guidelines in performance venues have been eased due to thorough quarantine management in the performing arts sector," and added, "I ask that you continue to strictly adhere to quarantine guidelines."
