40s Worker Dies During Lunar New Year Holiday... Suffocated by Toxic Gas While Removing Wastewater Residue
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] During the Lunar New Year holiday, one of two workers in their 40s who inhaled toxic gas and suffocated while removing wastewater sludge at a plating company died while receiving treatment.
According to the Incheon Western Police Station on the 14th, A (49), who was unconscious due to toxic gas suffocation in Seo-gu, Incheon, died that morning.
A collapsed after inhaling toxic gas while removing wastewater sludge at a plating company in Seoknam-dong, Seo-gu, Incheon, around 4:10 p.m. the previous day. A received emergency treatment including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and was transferred to a nearby hospital for treatment but died the next morning, one day after the accident.
B (49), a colleague who went in to rescue A but also inhaled gas and collapsed, is currently receiving treatment at the hospital but has not regained consciousness.
A and B were working for a wastewater treatment company, removing wastewater sludge inside the subcontractor’s internal wastewater treatment facility when the accident occurred. B, who belongs to a different company, was in a vehicle and entered the facility after confirming A had collapsed.

The police requested the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency to analyze the components of the toxic gas they inhaled to identify what it was.
