This Year, Gyeongnam Insect University Begins Pilot Operation of 'Yangbong Class' with Gradual Expansion

With the enactment of the "Act on the Promotion and Support of the Beekeeping Industry" on August 27, 2019, which had long been a wish of beekeeping industry workers nationwide, the demand for related experts is expected to increase.
Gyeongnam Agricultural Research and Extension Services applied last December for the designation of a specialized institution for training manpower in the beekeeping industry by the Rural Development Administration, and on the 9th was designated as the first specialized institution for training manpower in the domestic beekeeping industry.
Gyeongsangnam-do Agricultural Research and Extension Services has led professional education for local farmers with excellent educational facilities. In particular, the Useful Insect Research Institute, launched in January this year, boasts a solid research foundation by conducting regional demonstration research projects in the beekeeping field, including industrial insects and pollen-pollinating honeybees.
This year, due to the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), some courses such as practical training at the Gyeongnam Insect University, which was previously operated, will be pilot-operated as beekeeping classes.

Son Changhwan, head of the Technology Extension Division at the Agricultural Research and Extension Services, emphasized, "Being designated as a specialized institution for training manpower in the beekeeping industry is the fruition of the educational aspirations of about 3,500 beekeeping farms in the province," and added, "We will prepare high-quality education so that Gyeongnam can become the mecca of specialized manpower education in the beekeeping industry."
