According to the legal community, the Suwon District Court will conduct a pre-arrest detention hearing (warrant substantive examination) starting at 2:30 PM today for Aunt A and Uncle B, who are charged with violating the Special Act on the Punishment of Child Abuse Crimes.
The couple is accused of brutally beating their niece C (10), whom they were taking care of, with a plastic fly swatter and forcibly submerging her head in a bathtub filled with water because she did not obey and could not control her urination, leading to her death on the morning of the 8th.
When C stopped breathing, they called 119 at 12:35 PM the same day, reporting, "The child is submerged in the bathtub and not breathing."
Paramedics performed CPR on C, who was in cardiac arrest, and transported her to the hospital, but she ultimately passed away.
After discovering bruises all over C’s body, hospital medical staff and paramedics reported suspected child abuse to the police. The police received a statement from the couple admitting to having lightly hit the child several times and urgently arrested them on charges of violating the Child Abuse Punishment Act.
During the subsequent police investigation, A and B admitted to assaulting C and abusing her using water.
The Yongin Dongbu Police Station applied for arrest warrants for A and B on charges of violating the Child Abuse Punishment Act the previous day.
