[Golf Topic] Sorensdam "LPGA Tour Comeback After 13 Years~"
[Asia Economy Reporter No Woo-rae] ○…‘The legend of women's golf’ Annika Sorenstam (Sweden, photo) will participate in the U.S. Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Tour as a player for the first time in 13 years.
On the 10th (Korean time), the LPGA Tour announced on its official website that "Sorenstam will compete in the Gainbridge LPGA (total prize money $2 million) held on the 25th in Orlando, Florida, USA." This marks her return to an official tournament exactly 12 years and 3 months after leaving the field following the ADT Championship in November 2008. Last month, she appeared at the Diamond Resorts Tournament as a celebrity, not as a player.
"I am happy to participate in the tournament," said Sorenstam. "My children are also looking forward to watching their mother play," she added. "I have no desire for results; I decided to focus on the challenge itself." She further explained, "If the schedule allows, I want to participate in this summer's US Senior Women's Open. To do that, I judged that I need to build up my competitive edge." Sorenstam ranks third all-time with 72 wins on the LPGA Tour.
