Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority Improves Aging Equipment at Gwangyang Port Container Wharf Terminal
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority (President Cha Min-sik, hereinafter referred to as the Authority) announced on the 9th that it has completed the replacement of the aging equipment of the container crane at Gwangyang Port Phase 2-2 berth.
The replaced equipment is the drive of the container crane, a core device that controls all speeds of the crane and is directly related to safety accidents.
The Authority carried out this equipment replacement work to improve the efficiency of cargo handling equipment and to prevent safety accidents in advance by timely replacing the aging equipment.
To this end, the Authority invested a total of 3.8 billion KRW over eight months from June last year, sequentially replacing the drives of six container cranes one by one in close consultation with the operators to minimize operational losses.
An operator official said, “As the existing equipment was discontinued, there were many difficulties in securing spare parts, maintenance, and safety,” adding, “This equipment replacement project will greatly help improve berth productivity and prevent safety accidents.”
