Kim Tae-nyeon, the floor leader of the Democratic Party, said at the floor leadership meeting held on the 9th at the Busan Port International Exhibition & Convention Center, "The full deployment of the Democratic Party floor leadership to Busan is to clearly show the firm will to build the Gadeokdo New Airport to the citizens of Busan." He added, "The Gadeokdo New Airport is the legacy of the late President Roh Moo-hyun and a consistent promise of the Democratic Party. The People Power Party obstructed the dreams and future of Busan citizens by wavering on the Southeast Gateway Airport project during the nine years of the Lee Myung-bak and Park Geun-hye administrations."
Kim Tae-nyeon said, "We will responsibly handle the special law at the National Assembly plenary session on February 26 to ensure that the Gadeokdo New Airport can never be reversed," and "The Democratic Party will firmly handle it so that the Gadeokdo New Airport will not become a false hope for the citizens of Busan." He also reiterated, "The Democratic Party will make Gadeokdo an 'irreversible' national project," and "We will proceed with the project at a rapid pace, considering how delayed it has been until now."
Hong Ik-pyo, chairman of the Policy Committee, also expressed regret, targeting the People Power Party leadership, saying, "It has been almost three months since the Democratic Party proposed the special law for the Gadeokdo New Airport on November 25, but the opposition party has not participated in any discussions."
Chairman Hong emphasized, "The Democratic Party will definitely pass the special law for the Gadeokdo New Airport during the February extraordinary session to respond to the wishes of the 8.4 million residents of Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam," and "If infrastructure is built, the free trade zone is activated, and the win-win regional job model is realized, the Busan economy will experience a second leap forward."

He added, "I sincerely apologize to the victims and citizens for the unfortunate past incident, but I want to report to the citizens that the Democratic Party has made a responsible decision for Busan."
