Hong Nam-gi 'Checking Prices of Lunar New Year Goods'... Considering Additional Egg Imports
Rapid Inspection and Improvement of the Entire Egg Distribution Process
[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] Hong Nam-ki, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, checked the supply and price trends of major seasonal products, including eggs, before the Lunar New Year on the 9th.
On that day, Deputy Prime Minister Hong visited the Nonghyup Hanaro Mart in Dobong-gu, Seoul, and stated, "If the supply conditions of eggs worsen, we will also promote additional egg imports." The government has announced that it will import a total of 44 million eggs by the end of February.
He said, "We will simplify customs clearance and quarantine procedures to ensure eggs are smoothly distributed in the market, and will inspect and improve the distribution process by speeding up the labeling of unique numbers such as laying dates and packaging processes." Additionally, he added that the entire egg distribution process will be promptly inspected and improved through faster packaging processes.
The government plans to expand egg supply before the Lunar New Year up to 1.3 times the normal level to suppress additional upward pressure. The 'Nonghal Gapsida' event, which offers a 20% discount on eggs through large marts, will continue to be promoted. They also announced plans to create measures to enable more discounted sales of agricultural and livestock products in traditional markets.
