Gwangju City to Conduct Comprehensive Inspection of Bus Arrival Information Terminals Starting from the 15th
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 9th that it will conduct a comprehensive inspection of Bus Arrival Information Terminals (BIT), which provide bus arrival time information and real-time bus location, for six weeks starting from the 15th.
The Bus Arrival Information Terminals operate year-round and are installed outdoors, making them vulnerable to environmental conditions such as high and low temperatures, humidity, and dust. As a result, issues such as component damage and cable disconnection causing temporary operation suspension have frequently occurred.
Therefore, the city plans to conduct a comprehensive inspection to assess the condition of the terminals, address any malfunctions, and use the results for management purposes. In cooperation with maintenance companies, dust and other contaminants entering the terminals, which cause malfunctions, will be removed.
The inspection will focus on ▲ the risk of falling of aged terminals ▲ terminal damage and cleanliness ▲ maintenance of normal functionality ▲ accuracy of installation location and information guidance ▲ exposure of electrical and communication cables, as well as overall surrounding environment and citizen safety.
Since 2007, Gwangju has built and operated Bus Arrival Information Terminals (BIT) and Bus Information Systems (BIS), currently installed and operating at 995 out of 2,379 city bus stops (42%).
Last year, to enhance convenience for citizens using city buses, about 220 new terminals were installed at bus stops with many routes, annual users, and elderly or vulnerable passengers, according to installation standards.
The visibility improvement project, which replaced all 64 aged LCD-type terminals installed in 2007 with LED-type terminals, has also been completed. The LED displays offer high resolution, making information clearly visible even during bright daylight, significantly improving readability.
Additionally, 22 terminals that obstruct pedestrian and bus entry confirmation at stops were relocated or installed in covered shelters to secure visibility, and efforts were made to improve the stop environment by repainting and replacing acrylic panels on about 30 aged terminals that detracted from the urban landscape.
