Seoul Dongbu Detention Center to Resume Normal Operations Today... Full Inspection at Nambu Prison Tomorrow
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Seok-jin] The Seoul Eastern Detention Center, where a COVID-19 cluster infection occurred, has normalized its operations starting from the 8th as no additional confirmed cases have emerged.
According to the Ministry of Justice, during the 17th full inspection on that day, one pretrial detainee received a final negative test result.
As of 5 p.m. that day, the total number of confirmed cases in correctional facilities nationwide was 1,276, with no new confirmed cases reported for two consecutive days since one inmate at Seoul Southern Prison tested positive on the 6th.
The Ministry of Justice plans to gradually normalize the operation of the institution, including the kitchen, from that day onward in consultation with health authorities, as no additional confirmed cases have been reported at the Eastern Detention Center.
About 210 inmates who had been transferred from the Seoul Eastern Detention Center to the newly built Daegu Prison were transferred back to the Seoul Eastern Detention Center on that day.
As of that day, the total number of confirmed inmates nationwide was 104, including 51 at the Eastern Detention Center, 43 at Gyeongbuk Northern No. 2 Prison, 7 at Seoul Southern Prison, and 3 at Seoul Detention Center.
