Sancheong-gun Provides Holiday Consolation Payments to National Veterans
Newly Established This Year... Approximately 1,000 Recipients
Gun Has Continuously Expanded Recipients and Scale Since 2010
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Sancheong-gun, Gyeongnam announced on the 8th that starting this year, it will provide holiday (Seol·Chuseok) consolation money to national veterans.
Those who are already receiving veteran allowances will be paid without a separate application. For those who need to apply separately, individual notices will be sent, and payments will be made upon receipt of applications.
The newly established consolation money recipients number about 1,000, with an amount of 50,000 KRW per person. It will be paid twice a year during Seol and Chuseok. Since the establishment of the combatant allowance in January 2010, Sancheong-gun has been steadily expanding the support recipients for veteran allowances.
In 2019, the 'Sancheong-gun Support Ordinance for Veterans, etc.' was partially amended to expand the veteran honor allowance, which had been paid to veterans of the Korean War and Vietnam War, bereaved families of war casualties, bereaved families of war wounded, and families of those awarded for meritorious service, to include injured soldiers, special mission veterans, and bereaved families of line-of-duty deaths.
From January 2020, the county further expanded the recipients to include spouses of deceased veterans and independence patriots, providing veteran allowances to them as well.
As a result, the number of recipients of the veteran honor allowance increased from about 620 in 2018 to approximately 950 in 2020, with a total of 1.25 billion KRW paid in veteran allowances.
Along with this, since 2019, the county has been promoting a nameplate installation project to repay the dedication of national veterans and enhance their pride.
From 2019 to 2020, over two years, nameplates were installed at the homes of about 370 individuals, including descendants of patriotic martyrs, independence patriots, national veterans, combat veterans, recipients of meritorious service awards, and recipients of national service awards.
