Park Mijeong, Gwangju City Council Member, Leads 4 Proposals Passed in Plenary Session
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Four ordinances, spearheaded by Park Mi-jung, a member of the Gwangju Metropolitan Council (The Minjoo Party, Dong-gu 2), were passed at the plenary session on the 8th.
The ordinances initiated by Councilor Park Mi-jung and passed at the plenary session are the "Ordinance on the Establishment and Operation of Gwangju Metropolitan Medical Center," the "Partial Amendment Ordinance on Public Health and Medical Care in Gwangju Metropolitan City," the "Ordinance on Support for Menstrual Products for Female Students by the Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education," and the "Basic Ordinance on Universal Design in Gwangju Metropolitan City."
The "Ordinance on the Establishment and Operation of Gwangju Metropolitan Medical Center" is based on the "Act on the Establishment and Operation of Local Medical Centers" and prioritizes public healthcare for citizens. It stipulates securing medical expertise by defining the name and location, the composition of the establishment promotion committee and feasibility review, the articles of incorporation and projects, and the composition of executives including the director.
Additionally, considering the public nature of local medical centers, it specifies the establishment of a committee to strictly regulate procedures related to establishment, dissolution, and operation. In particular, to ensure the responsibility, public nature, and sustainability of the Gwangju Metropolitan Medical Center, it allows for the establishment and operation of a citizen participation committee to reflect the opinions of local residents.
The "Partial Amendment Ordinance on Public Health and Medical Care in Gwangju Metropolitan City" aims to increase the dedicated personnel of the Public Health and Medical Support Group due to the spread of new infectious diseases and a shortage of personnel compared to other cities and provinces. It adjusts the current number from five, including the support group leader, to seven.
The "Ordinance on Support for Menstrual Products for Female Students by the Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education" primarily seeks to stipulate necessary matters for supporting menstrual products for female students in accordance with higher laws, contributing to the healthy growth and educational welfare improvement of female students.
The "Basic Ordinance on Universal Design in Gwangju Metropolitan City" mainly focuses on creating a "non-discriminatory universal urban environment" by applying universal design to public and private facilities promoted by Gwangju City.
It also includes provisions to establish a basic plan for creating a safer and more convenient urban environment for citizens when establishing or implementing "universal design," and states that the basic plan will be formulated every five years as necessary.

She added, "Going forward, I will do my best in legislative activities to make Gwangju a leading public healthcare city that guarantees publicness, sustainability, efficiency, responsibility, and flexibility through strengthening public health and medical infrastructure to resolve health inequalities for medical vulnerable groups and through citizen participation, thereby improving the quality of life for citizens."
