Gwangju City Provides Emergency Winter Supplies to Vulnerable Groups
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City will provide winter supplies such as blankets and thermal underwear to groups vulnerable to cold waves.
According to Gwangju City on the 8th, a cold wave warning was issued last month, and the lowest temperature this winter was recorded at minus 18.9°C. Due to recent Arctic warming phenomena and equatorial La Ni?a effects, the possibility of future cold waves is considered very high. Therefore, the city has prepared winter supplies worth approximately 80 million won to support vulnerable groups.
The winter supplies will be provided sequentially through support organizations by the 10th, before the Lunar New Year holiday.
The city has established a 24-hour situation management system to prepare for winter disasters and is operating a joint city-district emergency response team for heavy snow and cold waves, which promptly handles citizens' safety reports or inconveniences with a single phone call.
