On the 5th (local time), Luke Bradnam, a weather reporter for Australian broadcaster 9News, was broadcasting live with the Gold Coast beach as the backdrop.
Bradnam, who went out to the beach to report on weather related to the rough waves, witnessed a person in the sea signaling for help. He immediately took off his microphone and suit and jumped into the sea.
The two succeeded in pulling the man who had fallen into the water back to the beach, but unfortunately, the man had already passed away.
After the police arrived and the situation was handled, Bradnam, without even having time to put his clothes back on, took the microphone again and reported the scene in detail to the viewers with an excited voice.
Bradnam told 9News about the incident, "Someone was struggling in the waves," adding, "I immediately took off my suit and ran out with a nearby surfer to help the person in distress."
He continued, "I thought it was a person who had fallen into the water, but unfortunately, it was someone who had already drowned," and said, "It was my first time touching a corpse, so I was shocked, but I think it will bring comfort to the family who would have been in pain not knowing about this."
