[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seongbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) Jeongneung 2-dong Community Service Center (Director Yoon Chan-gu) announced on the 4th that the 'Red Cross Love Rice Cake Soup Rice Sharing Event for Lunar New Year' was held.
This event was made richer thanks to the sponsorship of Hanyang Saemaeul Geumgo and Daejin Passenger Labor Union Committee.
The Jeongneung 2-dong Red Cross Volunteer Association (President Kim Kang-sun), which hosted the event, personally packaged 2.5kg of rice cake soup rice and 600g of beef to be delivered to about 120 vulnerable groups in welfare blind spots in the area, including Hope Windmill recipients, low-income elderly living alone households, disabled households, homeless shelters, and North Korean defector youth facilities, together with Red Cross volunteers (angels wearing yellow vests).
Hope Windmill households received the packages through non-face-to-face direct delivery by volunteers observing quarantine rules due to COVID-19. Some other recipients visited the community center to receive the packages directly, and for those with mobility difficulties, the community center made direct visits to deliver the items.
Also, the Red Cross Volunteer Association presented plaques of appreciation personally made by the volunteers to Hanyang Saemaeul Geumgo Chairman Kim Eung-su and Daejin Passenger Labor Union Chairman Jang Ran-su, who donate for every sharing event, adding warmth to the occasion.
Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, who participated in the event, expressed gratitude, saying, “In these unprecedentedly difficult times due to COVID-19, I hope that the small kindness of the Jeongneung 2-dong Red Cross Volunteer Association, supported by Hanyang Saemaeul Geumgo and Daejin Passenger Labor Union Committee, will be delivered as a warm gift to neighbors who have to spend the Lunar New Year alone, allowing them to have a rich holiday.”
Kim Kang-sun, President of Jeongneung 2-dong Red Cross Volunteer Association, said, “In these difficult times due to COVID-19, this Lunar New Year Love Rice Cake Soup Rice Sharing Event was possible thanks to much sponsorship and interest. Although it is a small sharing, I hope it will be delivered as great happiness within the local community. I am glad that it became an opportunity to share love with neighbors around us who are isolated and in need of help due to COVID-19. I am grateful to the members of the Red Cross Volunteer Association who work hard for the difficult neighbors in the community.”
