"Card 8 of 23"… 'Emperor' Jordan Signed Card Sold for 1.6 Billion KRW
[Asia Economy Reporter Hana Na] A basketball card personally signed by the basketball legend Michael Jordan was sold for $1.44 million (approximately 1.6 billion KRW).
According to investment magazine Barron's, at an auction hosted by Heritage Auctions in Dallas, Texas on the 5th (local time), a 1997 NBA game jersey card released by sports memorabilia manufacturer Upper Deck was sold for the highest price as a Jordan card.
This card contains a piece of the uniform Jordan wore at the 1992 NBA All-Star Game along with Jordan's handwritten autograph.
At that time, 23 cards were produced, and this card is the 8th card.
Sports memorabilia manufacturers produce cards containing players' autographs or uniforms and randomly insert them into card sets for sale, so collectors cannot selectively purchase these cards.
The previous highest auction price for a Jordan-related card was $915,000 (approximately 1.03 billion KRW), recorded in December last year.
Jordan-related merchandise was originally very popular, but Barron's reported that demand increased even more after Jordan's documentary "The Last Dance" aired last year.
Sixty-nine bidders participated by phone in the Heritage Auctions auction, and the identity of the winning bidder was not disclosed on the day.
