Mapo-gu Provides Up to 300,000 KRW in Real Estate Brokerage Fees Support for Low-Income Residents
Support for Brokerage Fees up to 300,000 KRW for Lease Deposits under 100 Million KRW... Expansion of Eligible Recipients Including North Korean Defectors and Multicultural Families on Medical Benefits Since December Last Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Mapo-gu (Mayor Yudonggyun) is expanding the ‘Free Brokerage Support Project for Socially Disadvantaged Groups’ to improve housing stability for low-income residents and promote a culture of sharing and coexistence.
This project supports real estate brokerage fees up to 300,000 KRW when eligible recipients rent homes with a deposit of 100 million KRW or less. Since June 2019, the scope has been expanded from a subset of low-income recipients of the National Basic Livelihood Security to all recipients, and newly included low-income single-parent families.
Additionally, since December last year, the program has further expanded its target beneficiaries by including North Korean defectors and multicultural families who are eligible for medical benefits, and it is expected that more low-income residents will benefit this year.
Recently, due to globalization, the number of foreign residents and naturalized citizens in Korea has increased, leading to a rise in multicultural families, and the number of North Korean defectors is also gradually increasing.
The expansion of the real estate brokerage fee support aims to help these groups adapt stably to society, ultimately laying the foundation for gradual social integration and fostering a culture of sharing and coexistence.
This project was first funded and operated in 2019, supporting a total of 4.2 million KRW for 23 households that year. In 2020, support increased by 243% compared to the previous year, with 8.75 million KRW provided to 46 households, confirming the positive effect of expanding the target beneficiaries.
Yudonggyun, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, “True social integration is respecting differences and mutually accepting each other to unify as a community value. I expect the free brokerage support project for low-income residents to serve as a stepping stone toward achieving such social integration.”
