Beautiful Donation by Disabled Resident of Wolgye 2-dong, Nowon-gu Gains Attention
On the 2nd, Mr. Lee, registered as severely disabled (mental) and a basic livelihood recipient, struggled to make ends meet but still visited the community center to donate 1 million won.
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Nowon-gu (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) received a heartwarming donation from an anonymous donor residing in Wolgye 2-dong and shared the story behind it.
On the 2nd, Mr. Lee, who is registered as having a severe mental disability and as a basic livelihood security recipient, visited the community center to make a donation despite his own difficult living conditions.
He withdrew 1 million won, which he had saved by cutting back on living expenses, with the thought of wanting to help small business owners struggling during the COVID-19 pandemic, even though it was a small amount.
The staff initially tried to refuse the donation, considering it a large sum for a recipient of basic livelihood security, but Mr. Lee insisted that he wanted to give back even a little of the benefits he had received. When advised to donate only part of the amount, he insisted on donating the full amount and presented the donation.
The Wolgye 2-dong Community Center plans to select and deliver the precious donation to businesses affected by COVID-19 through consultation with the Dong Resident Welfare Council.
