Gwangyang City Signs Business Agreement to Establish 'Seomjingang Area Integrated Tourism Belt'
Gwangyang, Gokseong, Gurye, and Hadong 4 Counties Strengthen Commitment to Jointly Discover and Promote Large-Scale Projects
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] On the morning of the 4th at around 10 a.m., Gwangyang City announced that four basic local governments in the Seomjingang area, including Gwangyang, Gurye, Gokseong, and Hadong, signed a "Business Agreement for the Creation of an Integrated Tourism Belt in the Seomjingang Area."
The signing ceremony, held online via video conference rooms in each city and county due to the COVID-19 situation, proceeded in the order of opening, progress report, greetings, signing of the agreement, and commemorative photo session.
The four cities and counties had agreed on the need for joint efforts to create synergy by linking individually promoted tourism policies into a single tourism loop and to respond to rapidly changing tourism trends.
As a result, the business agreement includes the will and promise to closely exchange and cooperate for the prosperity and development of the Seomjingang area, including mutual respect for historical and cultural traditions, sharing of tourism resources, and promotion of large-scale tourism development projects.
Since last year, the city has been promoting the "Gyeong-Jeon Cultural Shared Village" project, developing shared tourism content centered on the Seomjingang River and a tour around the Seomjingang, together with Hadong County.
Furthermore, once the regional development public project jointly promoted by Gokseong and Gurye is selected, it is expected that the creation of the Seomjingang integrated tourism belt will gain further momentum.
Jung Hyun-bok, mayor of Gwangyang City, said, "The signing ceremony for the business agreement to create the Seomjingang integrated tourism belt is a very meaningful occasion," adding, "The Seomjingang River is the lifeline of the southern region, flowing through three provinces and 14 cities and counties in Yeong and Honam, and has long been the starting point of national unity fostering friendship between Yeong and Honam."
He continued, "I hope that the four cities and counties will unite their strength and wisdom for the prosperity of the Seomjingang area, which is rich in attractions and food such as the Maehwa Festival, Sansuyu Festival, Train Village, Cherry Blossom Road, Jaecheop (small freshwater clams), and Beokgul (a type of oyster)."
