People Power Party Judiciary Committee Member Demands Resignation of Chief Justice Kim Myung-soo
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] The members of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee from the People Power Party demanded the resignation of Chief Justice Kim Myeong-su in relation to the impeachment motion against Judge Im Seong-geun. They claimed that he not only condoned the infringement on judicial independence but also made false reports to the committee members.
On the 3rd, People Power Party lawmakers Kim Do-eup, Yoo Sang-beom, and Jeon Ju-hye held a press conference at the National Assembly Communication Office to demand Chief Justice Kim's resignation.
On the same day, a spokesperson for Judge Im released a statement revealing that a resignation letter had been submitted before the meeting between Chief Justice Kim and Judge Im on May 22 of last year, but it had not been accepted. According to the statement, "Chief Justice Kim understands that Chief Judge Im Seong-geun submitted a resignation letter. However, the Chief Justice must also consider various political situations. If the resignation is accepted, impeachment discussions in the National Assembly cannot proceed, which could lead to criticism. Whether to accept the resignation is up to the Chief Justice," it was mentioned.
Regarding this, the People Power Party members of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee stated, "The Supreme Court lied in response to written inquiries from lawmakers Kim and Yoo, denying that it ever said the resignation could not be accepted due to impeachment issues, while Judge Im issued a statement clarifying the truth."

The People Power Party lawmakers on the committee said, "The Chief Justice, who should protect judicial independence, has been a bystander to the political 'judge disciplining' impeachment motion and is now actively lying about unfavorable facts. Chief Justice Kim is the main cause of the rapid decline in the judiciary's stature, so we hope he takes responsibility for today's situation and resigns. If he refuses, he will face impeachment," they warned.
