Basic Education, Problem Behavior Correction Education (Outdoor/Indoor Classes), 1:1 Counseling Customized Solutions... 5 Days, Applications Open from Feb to Mar, Classes Limited to 3 Dogs Each for Intensive Training
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Nowon-gu (District Mayor Oh Seung-rok) is operating a problem behavior correction education program for companion dogs called ‘Smart Companion Life’ to promote a happy life with pets.
This program, consisting of a 3-week course held once a week, includes ▲ ‘Basic Home Dog Education’ covering theory and practice necessary for raising companion dogs at home ▲ ‘Problem Behavior Correction Education’ which can be taken indoors or outdoors ▲ and ‘Individual 1:1 Counseling’ providing customized solutions through personalized consultations.
Classes are held on Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday.
The outdoor class runs from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM, and the indoor class from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM.
To maintain class concentration, all classes are limited to 3 households, with one household defined as one guardian and one companion dog.
The education venue is ‘Healing Hasigae! Daengdaeng House’ (258 Suraksan-ro, Nowon-gu), and the 3-week course fee of 5,000 KRW is to be paid in cash on site.
The February classes run from February 17 to March 7, and the March classes from March 10 to March 28. The recruitment is for 6 classes, each with 3 households, totaling 18 households per month.
Program registration opens at 10:00 AM on the 5th on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration for February and March classes is conducted simultaneously in February, and only one class per month is allowed.
Applications can be made on the Daengdaeng House website, and more detailed information can be obtained by contacting Daengdaeng House.
Meanwhile, ‘Healing Hasigae! Daengdaeng House,’ where this program is held, is a companion animal culture center that opened last October. It aims to reduce abandoned and lost animals and foster a proper companion animal culture.
The interior space is equipped with a play facility and shelter for abandoned dogs, an education room for various companion animal-related programs, a self-dry room for pets offering bathing and drying services, and a Daengdaeng Cafe where simple food and beverages are available.
Before the operation of educational facilities was suspended due to strengthened social distancing measures from COVID-19, the behavior correction and handmade snack-making classes attracted great popularity, with 124 residents participating despite the short period.
The district plans to offer various programs such as ‘Companion Dog Academy,’ a practical program; ‘Companion Family Experience Education,’ allowing prospective adopters to experience pet adoption in advance; and ‘Youth Life Education,’ where teenagers can volunteer and reflect on the value of life once social distancing is eased.
