[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 3rd that it will support one site for the ‘Urban Citizen Participatory Apartment Landscaping Multi-layer Planting Technology Pilot Project,’ which creates differentiated flowerbed spaces using various garden plant materials and allows residents to directly participate in apartment garden management.
The Urban Citizen Participatory Apartment Landscaping Multi-layer Planting Technology Pilot Project is a program where apartment residents directly arrange and plant appropriate herbaceous plants and shrubs according to multi-layer planting standards and operate educational courses for self-managed garden care.
Applicants must be resident representative councils of apartments located in Seoul that have been completed for more than 10 years. If selected as a project target, a project fund of 40 million KRW will be provided. Applications will be accepted from the 4th to the 18th at the Seoul Agricultural Technology Center, and project targets will be selected through on-site evaluations.
Cho Sang-tae, Director of the Seoul Agricultural Technology Center, said, “We expect that the increase in plant introduction through multi-layer planting will expand plant consumption and that apartment flowerbed management involving residents will create a healthy living environment.”
Inquiries about the Urban Citizen Participatory Apartment Landscaping Multi-layer Planting Technology Pilot Project can be made to the Urban Agriculture Team at the Seoul Agricultural Technology Center.
Additionally, Seoul is also undertaking the creation of a Green Healing Office (1 site) with air quality management functions inside offices and the distribution of indoor plant cultivators (2 sites) that will serve as indoor vegetable gardens, to help various urban agriculture models permeate citizens’ daily lives.
For stable operation, maintenance and management will be supported for one year by the ‘Seoul Agricultural Technology Center,’ with applications accepted from Thursday, February 4th, and selections made accordingly.
The Green Healing Office creation project targets indoor spaces within public institutions frequently visited by citizens such as autonomous districts, creating a green and pleasant environment tailored to the space characteristics using eco-friendly bio-walls and partition planters with air-purifying plants. ICT sensors enable air quality measurement inside offices for fine dust management.
The plant cultivator distribution project targets autonomous districts and welfare institutions, distributing two 3-tier plant cultivators applying indoor plant cultivation environment control technology developed by Seoul City, and promotes technical education related to plant cultivators using experts. Through the distribution of plant cultivators, the project aims to foster citizen interest in future agricultural technologies and activate related fields.
Applications for the Green Healing Office creation and plant cultivator distribution projects will be accepted until the 15th, with target institutions selected through on-site evaluations. Furthermore, to enhance the experience of the pilot projects?one Green Healing Office and two plant cultivator distributions?various educational programs such as plant cultivation and future agricultural technology education will be conducted for the selected institutions.
