Chinese State Media: "Taiwan Independence Means War"…Strong Warning to Taiwan and the US
[Asia Economy Reporter Woo Su-yeon] As the United States and China engage in a standoff in the Taiwan Strait and the South China Sea, Chinese state media has issued a strong warning to the US and Taiwan, stating that "a Taiwan independence war means war itself."
On the 31st, the Chinese state-run Global Times commented, "Taiwan and the United States must not misjudge or underestimate China's determination to preserve its territory," and asserted, "Chinese authorities must severely punish the reckless actions of Taiwan independence forces."
It added, "If Taiwan and the United States continue to push for Taiwan independence, taking advantage of the final moves of the previous administration, it will trigger military conflict beyond the Taiwan Strait," emphasizing, "Taiwan independence means war."
The newspaper also urged, "We call on the Taiwan Democratic Progressive Party to abandon its reckless behavior," warning, "This is not an empty threat, and if they do not stop their acts of dividing the country at the appropriate time, they will ultimately be removed by force."
Furthermore, it stated, "China certainly has the power to do so," adding, "The 1.4 billion Chinese people can unite especially to preserve their territory."
Additionally, the Global Times sharply criticized Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen, saying she fundamentally undermines the mutual development between China and Taiwan. The newspaper claimed, "If the Tsai Ing-wen administration continues to rush down the wrong path, it is tantamount to a suicidal act," and argued, "The Taiwan authorities believe they can become a 'nation' with US support, but as China's national power grows, the opportunity for Taiwan independence has been buried."
