[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Hyun-joo] Kim Jong-in, Emergency Committee Chairman of the People Power Party, stated on the 31st regarding the suspicion that the Moon Jae-in administration attempted to build a nuclear power plant in North Korea, "The promotion of a North Korean nuclear power plant is in itself a momentous and earth-shaking issue," and added, "We will promptly launch a Truth-Finding Committee and concentrate our efforts on uncovering the substantive truth."
Chairman Kim held an emergency countermeasure meeting on the North Korean nuclear power plant suspicion that afternoon and said, "Based on the recently revealed concrete data, it raises reasonable suspicion, and the Blue House is showing a very abnormal reaction to the ruling party's demand to reveal the truth."
He said, "Even if it is on humanitarian grounds to support electricity to North Korea, I hope the government clarifies the reason for secretly pushing it forward without public consensus," and added, "The government must reveal the truth as it is so that it does not appear as if it is secretly communicating with North Korea." He also added, "I hope the truth about the power plant story that President Moon Jae-in reportedly brought up during the so-called 'Dobodari' private meeting at the 2nd inter-Korean summit is revealed."
Chairman Kim said, "Most of the documents promoting the North Korean nuclear power plant appear to have been created between the 1st and 2nd inter-Korean summits," and added, "When summarized, one cannot help but have a reasonable suspicion that the North Korean nuclear power plant was promoted as a reward at the regime level to ensure the success of the inter-Korean summit." He also said, "The reason why the documents promoting the North Korean nuclear power plant were secretly and hastily destroyed late at night on a holiday, a day before the audit, without the knowledge of the workers, must be revealed."
He emphasized that the government must reveal the substantive truth. Chairman Kim urged, "Since the documents promoting the North Korean nuclear power plant have been restored, I urge the immediate disclosure of the original related materials," and said, "If the government does not disclose them, a truth-finding investigation at the National Assembly level is necessary."
The People Power Party will launch a Truth-Finding Committee related to this matter. The committee members are expected to include Kim Do-eup, the secretary of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee; Kim Seok-ki, the secretary of the Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee; Han Ki-ho, the secretary of the Defense Committee; and Lee Cheol-gyu, the secretary of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
