Suspected Case of Highly Pathogenic AI Occurs at Laying Hen Farm in Pohang, Gyeongbuk
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] A suspected case of highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI) has occurred at a laying hen farm in Pohang, Gyeongbuk.
The Central Avian Influenza Countermeasures Headquarters (CAC) announced on the 30th that after receiving a suspicion report of deaths at a laying hen farm in Pohang, tests conducted by quarantine authorities detected the H5 type AI antigen. Detailed tests are currently underway, and the determination of high pathogenicity will be available in 1 to 3 days.
The CAC has restricted access to the farm and is conducting an epidemiological investigation. Additionally, preemptive quarantine measures such as movement restrictions, surveillance, and inspections are being implemented for farms within a 10 km radius.

A CAC official stated, "All farm owners nationwide must strictly follow quarantine rules such as disinfecting vehicles, people, and equipment, and changing boots. If any abnormalities are detected in the poultry being raised, please report immediately to the quarantine authorities."
