Guri City, "No Issues with GTX-B Galmae Station Stops" Focuses on Solving Traffic Problems
Simultaneous Promotion of ITX-Cheongchun Express Train Stops and Direct Operation of Gyeongchun and Bundang Lines
[Asia Economy Reporter La Young-chul] Guri City in Gyeonggi Province has decided to focus on persuading the central government to have the 'GTX-B' stop at Galmae Station, which is necessary to address the insufficient metropolitan transportation measures and chronic traffic congestion caused by the development of the Galmae District and Galmae Station area.
The city of Guri stated on the 29th, "With plans to supply about 9,900 households in the Galmae District, 6,300 households in the Galmae Station area, and approximately 10,000 housing units in Taereung CC, along with large-scale public housing supply through new town developments in nearby areas, a typical cluster development is underway."
This policy was decided at the interim report meeting of the preliminary feasibility study for expanding the railway network in Guri City held on the 27th, and it is also a follow-up visit after delivering a petition with citizens' signatures to Minister Byeon Chang-heum of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and National Assembly member Yoon Ho-jung on the 21st, requesting 'priority stop of GTX-B at Galmae Station.'
The city of Guri explains that having GTX-B stop at Galmae Station is a way to solve the metropolitan transportation issues of the Galmae Station area and Taereung CC without a large financial burden. Even assuming an additional stop, the increase in ridership makes the project economically viable, and there is no impact on track capacity.
Along with GTX-B and express train stops, the city plans to continue proposing metropolitan transportation improvement measures to the National Assembly, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Gyeonggi Province, and related agencies in cooperation, including ▲ extension of the Seoul Light Rail Transit (Myeonmok Line) ▲ direct operation connecting the Gyeongchun Line and Bundang Line ▲ establishment of a metropolitan transfer center at Galmae Station ▲ public bus garage in the Sano-dong area ▲ expansion of the metropolitan road between Guri IC and Taereung ▲ construction of a connecting road between Sanmaru-ro and Hwarang-ro ▲ and establishment of Galmae IC, to improve citizens' transportation environment.

Mayor Ahn Seung-nam emphasized, "About 10,000 households have settled in Galmae-dong, approximately 6,000 households in the Galmae Station area, and 10,000 units are planned for Taereung CC, but no definite transportation measures have been established," adding, "It is necessary to promptly promote integrated development linking the metropolitan transportation measures for the Galmae District, Station area, and Taereung CC Galmae District."
