Chonnam National University Hospital Officially Begins New Hospital Construction Project
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] Chonnam National University Hospital is actively promoting the construction of a new hospital that will lead next-generation advanced medical care.
On the 28th, Chonnam National University Hospital held an inauguration ceremony for the New Hospital Construction Promotion Team at Baeknyeon Hall in Building 6 of the hospital, pledging to gradually implement the long-cherished blueprint for the new hospital.
The inauguration ceremony was held in a simplified manner with only key executives, including Hospital Director Ahn Young-geun, attending to comply with COVID-19 social distancing measures.
Although the construction of the new hospital at Chonnam National University Hospital had been mentioned several times, it was not executed due to various internal circumstances. However, after Director Ahn Young-geun took office in November last year, he decided that the project could no longer be postponed for the health improvement of local residents and thus launched the promotion team.
The New Hospital Construction Promotion Team consists of three organizations: the New Hospital Construction Promotion Committee (hereinafter referred to as the Committee), the New Hospital Construction Promotion Headquarters (hereinafter referred to as the Headquarters), and the New Hospital Construction Advisory Group (hereinafter referred to as the Advisory Group).
The Committee, chaired by Director Ahn Young-geun, is composed of 16 members including hospital executives, employees, external experts, and related public officials. It serves as the decision-making body for major policies related to the new hospital construction.
The Headquarters is organized with Professor Min Yong-il of the Emergency Medicine Department as the head, along with deputy heads, general managers, dedicated staff, advisory staff, and administrative support staff, overseeing the practical work and planning of the new hospital construction project.
The Advisory Group consists of about 20 figures from various sectors of society, providing advice on major policies and current issues related to the new hospital construction and supporting the construction sponsors.
In particular, the Advisory Group includes key figures from academia, medical fields, politics, law, media, and the economy, ensuring that diverse opinions are fully reflected in establishing the roles and functions of the new hospital.
Director Ahn Young-geun explained the background for the promotion, stating, “Due to the aging of wards, lack of space for ward expansion, decreased efficiency in medical care, and severe parking difficulties, the current problems have reached saturation, making it impossible to delay the new hospital project any longer to realize future medical care.”
Accordingly, the new hospital at Chonnam National University Hospital is expected to gradually take shape from the ground up through continuous and systematic operation of the promotion team.
At present, it is difficult to predict the detailed construction schedule, but it is expected that after passing the preliminary feasibility study by 2023, the new hospital construction will be in full swing starting in 2024.
The new hospital is anticipated to be born as a smart hospital where the best patient-customized integrated care, cutting-edge healthcare convergence medical research, and world-class medical talent development will be realized.
Patient-customized integrated care will be organically conducted within a single space through multidisciplinary integrated treatment to provide the best customer satisfaction service in line with the hospital’s philosophy of prioritizing patients.
Additionally, the new hospital is expected to become a cradle of cutting-edge smart medical care by utilizing the accumulated big data from 111 years of Chonnam National University Hospital’s medical history to create new research models, develop new treatments, and conduct creative convergence research in various fields.
