"COVID-19 Treatment Development: Inclusive Supply to Desired Countries"
"Inclusive Policy Model Possibility to Overcome Disasters with Profit Sharing System"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] President Moon Jae-in stated that if a COVID-19 treatment is developed, it will be supplied inclusively to countries in need. He also suggested that the 'loss compensation system' and 'profit-sharing system' could become models of inclusive policies.
In a special address at the World Economic Forum (WEF) on the 27th, President Moon said, "Korea is now entering the phase of overcoming COVID-19, aiming for inclusive recovery and leap forward."
He identified 'vaccination' as the start of inclusive recovery. President Moon said, "Starting next month, vaccinations will be prioritized for nursing hospitals, elderly medical welfare facilities, and workers in high-risk medical institutions," adding, "We are already preparing optimized plans for transportation, storage, and administration of vaccines considering their characteristics, along with a compensation system for adverse reactions."
President Moon added, "We are doing our best to develop domestic vaccines, and if treatments developed in Korea succeed, we will support inclusive supply to countries that desire them."
As another effort for inclusive recovery, he mentioned employment retention policies, creation of public jobs, and support for low-income groups, emphasizing that discussions are underway on the 'loss compensation system' and 'profit-sharing system.' President Moon said, "More wisdom is needed for concrete measures, but if realized, these could become inclusive policy models to overcome new infectious disease disasters like COVID-19 together."
Beyond inclusive recovery, he also mentioned economic challenges through the 'Korean New Deal.' President Moon emphasized, "Through the Korean New Deal, we will expand employment and social safety nets, and through the Digital New Deal and Green New Deal, we will propel the Korean economy toward sustainable growth," adding, "We will revitalize regional economies by adding a regional balanced New Deal."
In particular, regarding the Green New Deal, he referred to the declaration of the '2050 Carbon Neutrality Vision,' stating, "We will strongly promote carbon neutrality in all economic and social sectors while creating a low-carbon industrial ecosystem." He urged participation in the P4G (Partnership for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030) Summit to be held in Seoul this May.
President Moon said, "Even in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, humanity is advancing step by step by practicing the values of freedom, democracy, humanitarianism, and multilateralism," adding, "Now the world must strengthen solidarity and cooperation to move toward a more inclusive new normal, not a K-shaped recovery."
