[2021 Asia Consumer Awards] Starbucks Directly Employs 18,000 People at Over 1,500 Stores Nationwide
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chunhan] Starbucks Coffee Korea has been continuously carrying out job creation activities for youth and vulnerable groups.
Starting with 40 partners at the opening of its first store in 1999, as of December 2020, it directly employs about 18,000 partners across approximately 1,500 stores nationwide, an increase of 450 times.
Starbucks began hiring people with disabilities in 2007, and currently, 404 baristas with hearing, intellectual, and physical disabilities are working. This represents an employment rate of 4.2% of all employees, based on the legal disability quota which doubles the number for severe disabilities, making it the highest level in the industry.

In partnership with the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, Starbucks runs the Return Mom program, supporting reemployment opportunities for women who have experienced career breaks. As of the first half of last year, a total of 160 women have returned as Return Mom baristas.
