Hancom Inspace-Naver Cloud Ground Station System Development... First in Korea
[Asia Economy Reporter Buaeri] Hancom Inspace, an affiliate of Hancom Group, announced on the 27th that it is promoting the development of a cloud-based ground station system in collaboration with Naver Cloud.
The two companies are building a ground station system by applying cloud technology for the first time in Korea.
Hancom Inspace will utilize its accumulated ground station construction technology and know-how in the aerospace field to develop technology capable of satellite control, processing, analysis, management, and distribution. Naver Cloud will be responsible for cloud computing, user service networks, and data security.
The two companies are initially planning to build a satellite information service ground station for public scientific data observation. They plan to expand to various services afterward.
Recently, with the emergence of small satellites, a foundation has been established to develop and operate various satellites easily and inexpensively, increasing the value and utilization of satellite information. However, ground stations for managing and utilizing satellite information are insufficient due to high construction costs.
Because of this, attempts to utilize cloud technology, which enables flexible computing, smooth accessibility, and stable data storage in ground station systems, are increasing. Overseas, cloud-based ground station systems such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) 'Ground Station' and Microsoft (MS) 'Azure Orbital' are being serviced.
Choi Myung-jin, CEO of Hancom Inspace, said, "The technology we are developing this time is expected to lead to the popularization of satellite information utilization by enabling system use at a more economical cost."
Im Tae-geon, Executive Director of Naver Cloud, said, "We will provide a stable cloud-based foundation so that space-related information, beyond data on Earth, can be safely handled on the cloud."

Meanwhile, Hancom Inspace, which joined Hancom Group in September last year, is a space and drone specialized company. As a leading company in the domestic aerospace ground station field, it has developed various ground station systems for low Earth orbit and geostationary satellites and is developing the ground station for the test lunar orbiter project (KPLO). Since 2019, it has been developing 'DroneSAT,' an unmanned automated drone operation system, expanding its scope to various monitoring and analysis businesses using drones.
