Acting Mayor Byeon, who submitted his resignation letter on this day, will deliver his farewell message online and conclude his 27-year public service career.
The farewell event will begin at 9:40 a.m. in the office, where key executives will attend to present a plaque of appreciation, followed by an online farewell speech broadcast through the city hall's internal system from 11 a.m. in the large conference room on the first floor of Busan City Hall.
In his farewell speech, Acting Mayor Byeon will express, "It is a great honor and fulfillment to have started and ended my public service career in my hometown, Busan, since 1995."
He will also share his reflections on the past nine months, during which he unexpectedly took on the heavy responsibility of acting mayor and worked tirelessly as a Busan city official.
After his resignation, Acting Mayor Byeon will immediately join the Democratic Party of Korea and announce his candidacy for the Busan mayoral by-election, entering the competition for the party's nomination.

With Byeon's entry, the ruling party's race for the Busan mayoral candidate is expected to become a three-way contest with former Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Kim Young-choon and Busan City Council member Park In-young.
