Chosun Polytechnic University Franchise Startup Management Department Shines as a Gateway to Startup Success
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] The Franchise Startup Management Department at Chosun University of Science and Technology, the only franchise and startup specialized department in the Gwangju-Jeonnam region, is gaining attention as a gateway to startup success.
On the 25th, Chosun University of Science and Technology stated, “Despite the difficult business environment due to COVID-19, the number of successful startup cases among our Franchise Startup Management Department graduates is steadily increasing,” adding, “The key to graduates’ startup success lies in developing business models that align with changing trends.”
In particular, Chorok Dwaeji Jip, a samgyeopsal (pork belly) specialty restaurant in Yeosu that uses pigs raised on plums in a hygienic environment, recorded monthly sales of 40 million KRW in a store with nine tables. Chorok Dwaeji Jip is thriving as customers visiting from afar after hearing word of mouth are increasing, in addition to local residents.
The achievement is even more meaningful as it was accomplished under adverse conditions such as visitor restrictions and shortened business hours due to the spread of COVID-19.
Kim Ki-chang, CEO of Chorok Dwaeji Jip and a graduate of the Franchise Startup Management Department at Chosun University of Science and Technology, said, “To strengthen sales in the changed environment, we developed lunchbox menus and samgyeopsal-jjukkumi (pork belly and baby octopus) menus as delivery products to generate additional sales,” adding, “We have also prepared a delivery-type startup model centered on meals and samgyeopsal menus with low startup costs to suit the changed business environment due to COVID-19, and plan to open in the Gwangju area soon.”
Lee Dong-hyun, CEO of Liberte, who jumped into the dessert cafe startup immediately after graduating from university, said, “Despite the low number of visitors in the early stages of startup due to COVID-19 amid fierce competition among cafes, we conducted close promotional activities targeting local government offices and offices,” adding, “We focused on reservation orders and takeout, strengthened set menu sales, and implemented delivery services to establish a stable position within the commercial district.”
Kim Tae-young, CEO who founded Dongsanri Halmae Nakji, a nakji bibimbap (octopus mixed rice) specialty restaurant with his own brand after gaining experience at franchise headquarters and stores, said, “We are receiving love from customers by focusing on expertise with the single menu of nakji bibimbap,” adding, “Our goal is to establish ourselves as the best restaurant in the region.”
