Seong-Jin Cho's World Premiere of Mozart's Unpublished Piece 'Allegro in D Major'
[Asia Economy Reporter Donghyun Choi] Pianist Seongjin Cho (27) will perform a recently discovered unpublished piece by Mozart (1756?1791) for the first time in the world.
According to the Mozarteum, a Mozart research institution, on the 25th, Seongjin Cho will present the world premiere of "Allegro in D major" at 6 p.m. (local time) on the 27th at the Great Hall of the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria.
This piece is a 1 minute and 34 seconds long piano composition. The Mozarteum estimates that Mozart composed it either during his early 1773 trip to Italy at the age of 17 or after returning to his hometown Salzburg.
This is the first performance of an unpublished Mozart piece in 65 years since 1956. The Mozarteum purchased the score from a private collector in 2018 and made it public after verification by Mozart experts.
The performance will take place during the annual "Mozart Week" music festival held in Salzburg to celebrate Mozart's birthday. It is known that Rolando Villaz?n, a tenor from Mexico and the artistic director, invited Seongjin Cho. Seongjin Cho plans to perform Mozart's Piano Sonata No. 12, Pimpinella, Allegro in C major, and finally the unpublished piece.
