[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Yeongdeungpo-gu (Mayor Chae Hyun-il) recently announced that it has completely revamped the corner of its official podcast channel, ‘Yeonggu-ne Sikttak’.
The ‘Yeonggu-ne Sikttak’ podcast, which delivers little-known public service information and various district announcements through the internet radio platform ‘Podbbang,’ was first launched in April 2019 to mark the first anniversary of Mayor Chae Hyun-il’s inauguration.
With its lively concept and relaxed conversational format, as of January 2021, it achieved about 1,200 subscribers and 1,040 likes, establishing itself as Yeongdeungpo’s representative promotional medium with much interest and response from residents.
This figure represents about a fivefold increase compared to the previous subscriber count since the revamp began in the second half of last year, and the quick delivery of district news and content filled with vivid stories from residents are evaluated to have contributed to the subscriber growth.
As its name means ‘a well-prepared table of Yeongdeungpo,’ it is richly and colorfully arranged with valuable information about Yeongdeungpo.
It is composed of four main themes: ▲ ‘Warm Stories of Our Neighborhood,’ inviting residents active in the area to share vivid activity stories and episodes ▲ ‘District Stories That Are Worth Knowing,’ introducing district policies and hot issues ▲ ‘How Much Do You Know About the Public Service Series?’ which answers questions about public service life ▲ and ‘Soyo-nyeo’s Espresso,’ summarizing contents from Yeongdeungpo’s representative newsletter, Takteuin Yeongdeungpo.
Along with the corner revamp, content posting linked with the district’s official SNS media is also pursued for more efficient and rapid promotional effects.
To overcome the limitations of an audio file-centered medium, photos and videos capturing the recording scenes and live footage are uploaded on Yeongdeungpo-gu’s Facebook and Instagram accounts, expecting double promotional effects by leveraging the advantages of both podcast and SNS media.
Moreover, unlike other local governments’ operating methods, the planning, composition, and hosting of the program are entirely handled by Yeongdeungpo-gu public officials, striving to deliver accurate and reliable district news and to form a consensus that communicates openly with residents.
